Just wanted to make sure that all fans of the BBC series The Office are aware of the brilliant Podcast on Guardian Unlimited.
The Podcast is titled The Ricky Gervais Show (why is it that brilliant co-author, 'goggle eyed freak' and otherwise very tall man, Stephen Merchant never features equally i.e., "How I made the Office, by Ricky
Gervais", "RickyGervais.com", etc? Is he underappreciated or just canny at avoiding the spotlight?), and consists of Gervais, Merchant and newcomer Karl Pilkington chatting about extremely random topics, for example: sending goats to the third world, the handicapped, 16th century Russian antique shops, lunar exploration, the shape of Karl's head, and loads of monkey news.
Pilkington's strength stems from a wry ability to zero in on mundane details eliciting torrents of abuse from the other two. His minimalist banter in the face of all the Gervais insanity keeps the show manageable and adds an understated dead-pan dynamic to the comedy.
A final note, if you download some of the shows- try for the MP4 versions if you can. They include chapters allowing incremental enjoyment. Happy listening.
